Job Description
Job Function:
The Manager Formulation Development will have responsibility for formulation development within the Product Development function at TyraTech. S/he will work with the Sr. Director of Product Development within the Commercial department to provide formulation strategies, seek new formulation opportunities and improve or expand formulations of existing products.
Primary Duties:
- Develop strategies for formulation of a wide range of agricultural pest control, industrial and institutional as well as OTC consumer insecticidal, fungicidal and bactericidal products.
- Coordinate and communicate formulation concepts and rational formulation design to internal research departments for testing and external contract manufacturers and formulators for preparation and physico-chemical testing.
- Provide technical support to and interaction with internal chemistry functions and lead formulation development within product development.
- Evaluate patents and prepare non-infringement strategies.
- Transfer formulation technology to Production and provide input for scale-up and commercial production as needed.
- Work effectively with external partners, resources and vendors to secure raw materials and formulation ingredients.
- Lead projects that span from early exploratory programs looking at new and innovative outlets for formulation technologies to the maintenance and expansion of the current product line.
- Develop manufacturing requirements, standards, specifications and product cost projections and assist with primary and secondary package selection and labeling.
- Prepare technical documents related to formulation development. Work with Regulatory Teams regarding registration requirements and the preparation of confidential statements of formula. Coordinate product chemistry packages for registration.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Prefer Masters or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or related field with a minimum of five years of experience in Formulation Development. Relevant training and coursework in project management.
- Experience in conventional and natural insecticide and fungicide chemistry and formulation of oils and synthetic chemistry into end use products. Knowledge of pest control targets preferred. Demonstrated ability to attend to detail and perform multiple complex tasks
- Active member of one or more field related professional societies.
- A verifiable history of formulating multiple new chemical specialty products in pest control, I&I, HABA and OTC fields.
- Experience with traditional formulations such as emulsifiable concentrates, soluble concentrates, granules, wettable powders, aerosols, creams, dusts, baits, and others is essential.
- Intimate working knowledge of requirements for federal and state regulatory agencies for product registration must be demonstrated.
- Communication ability with a broad range scientific and commercial professionals including product safety, biology, regulatory, marketing and legal is needed.
- Experience in leading efforts in a start-up environment is desirable.
Environmental & Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak clearly and hear.
- Ability to be mobile.
- May be subject to strenuous driving & travel conditions for long periods of time and lifting objects up to 20 pounds in weight.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to computer monitors, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
- Maintain forty (40) hours per week performance level, plus additional hours, as job requires.
